Many of our clients have heard
about Hobbie, our holiday runaway, from our
emails to help bring him home. Hobbie is
one of our favorites because of his sweet nature
and loving disposition. For those of you
who have not heard Hobbie's amazing story, he
has proved to be a very lucky dog.
Hobbie is a 12-year old Irish
Setter with severe arthritis. Hobbie's
arthritis it requires him to be rescued out of
mildly deep snow. Shortly before the
Christmas holiday Hobbie's owners went away on
vacation. They left Hobbie and his brother
Ursus in the care of a pet sitter. While
they were away they got the call that every
vacationing pet owner dreads....Hobbie has run
away! Hobbie's situation was even more
critical. Not only were we in the
middle of one of the top ten coldest December's
in Wisconsin history, but we had gotten a
substantial snowfall. Hobbie being lost
was one thing, but the deep snow and cold
temperatures made it very dangerous for him.
Frantic, Hobbie's owners
immediately returned home to begin making calls
to get the word out and to start looking for
Hobbie. We had hope that he would return
home shortly. After 2 nights of sub-zero
temperatures and more snowfall, Hobbie had still
not returned home. His collar was found on
the side of Mequon road and his fate looked
bleak. We continued to send emails to our
clients with updates and his family continued
the search for their beloved Hobbie, but hope
was fading fast.
Early on Friday morning, the
day before Christmas Eve, we received an
ecstatic call from Hobbie's mom...Hobbie had
wandered back home after 6 nights in sub-zero
temperatures! He was hospitalized at the
Animal Emergency Center and returned home the
following day. Except for some dehydration and
severe weight loss, Hobbie was well! It
was a holiday miracle for his family!
It was the best present his family could have
gotten.
Hobbie's mom, Meg, has
expressed her gratitude to all of our Mequon
neighbors and friends who took part in the
"Hobbie Hunt". Simply spreading the word
by telling friends and forwarding our emails to
other Mequon residents helped to ensure that
lots of eyes were out searching for Hobbie.
We hope this never happens to your pet, but it's
nice know that My Pet's Vet and other pet lovers
in the community are happy to lend a hand.
Congratulations to Hobbie's
family on his miraculous return home! We
couldn't be happier for you all!
