Avian Blood Sexing:
Many bird species cannot be sexed by their physical appearance.
A safe and accurate test using only one drop of blood is used to
sex a bird by their DNA.
Avian & Exotic Animal
Medicine Surgery: Dr.
Beatty is experienced and regularly cares for avian and exotic
pets. He trains and corresponds with colleagues to keep abreast
on new information in this area. If necessary, we have access to
specialists via VIN (The Veterinary Information Network) for
expert technical advice at no extra charge to you.
Anesthesia:
We strive to make anesthesia as safe as humanly possible. We do
preanesthetic blood screening on all patients to make
sure their organs can process anesthetic agents. We place an
intravenous catheter for use with fluid therapy and in case
emergency drugs are required. We utilize the safest available
anesthetics such as Sevofluorane gas for all patients-no
exceptions! This gas is often used for human pediatric and
geriatric patient anesthesia in hospitals. We comprehensively
monitor all patients. A nurse is dedicated to constantly
monitoring anesthesia and vital signs: heart rate and rhythm by
ECG, blood pressure, temperature, respiratory rate, temperature
and blood oxygen level. Read more about our anesthesia
policy:
Anesthesia and Your Pet
Behavioral Counseling: Dr. Beatty strongly believe that positive
reinforcement techniques are the best way to train all pets.
We refer behavioral cases to Kate Hastings who is an experienced
certified animal behaviorist. She has helped many pets with
problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying,
scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression.
Blood Parasite Testing: This test includes a screen for
life-threatening diseases such as Heartworm Disease, Lyme
Disease and Anaplasmosis. These serious diseases are
usually treatable when caught in their early stages.
Regular testing will help to ensure your dog does not suffer the
harmful effects of prolonged infection.
Client Education: We take the time to teach you about the
basics of pet care as well as come up with a health care plan
for your pet.
Dietary Counseling: We provide guidance of your pets
nutrition needs for their life stage as well as for any medical
condition.
Dentistry: Dental cleaning, polishing, tooth extractions
and oral surgery.
Electrocardiography: We provide this service on site with
cardiologist consultation.
Emergencies After-hours: The Animal Emergency Clinic is
at 2100 West Silver Spring just off of I-43; their phone is
414-540-6710. The Emergency Veterinary Service is located in
West Waukesha just of off I-94 at 360 Bluemound Road; their
phone is 262-542-3241. For maps and directions see the
After-hours Emergency Page.
Fecal Centrifugation:
This is an advanced lab test with a high degree of accuracy to
determine if your pet has intestinal parasites. These parasites
are a serious
hazard
to people, but especially to children. An outdated and
far less effective test called fecal flotation is routinely used
at many other clinics.
Health Certificates:
We are USDA accredited to provide health certificates to
transport pets nationally and internationally. Remember that
some countries require as many as 6-8 months of advanced
preparation before your trip so plan ahead!
In Home Service for Pet
Euthanasia: This is normally only offered by mobile vets,
but not vets in offices. We understand and appreciate the need
for this service. Choosing euthanasia for your pet is probably
one of the hardest decisions you will make in your life. Often,
many people find it comforting to have this done in the warmth
of their own home with the vet they know. This home service
typically occurs after the clinic has closed, so the doctor and
nurse can visit your home.

Laboratory: Our in-house laboratory facilities provide
for hematology, urinalysis, serology, and parasite testing. We
also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized
diagnostics and consultations.
Pain Management:
We firmly believe in minimizing any suffering. All surgical
procedures involve effectively controlling pain during and after
surgery. We often use what is termed multimodal pain management.
Both narcotic and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications
synergistically for maximum pain control. This results in
recovery and healing being smoother and faster.
Pharmacy:
We maintain a wide range pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos,
safe flea and heartworm preventatives, to meet your pet’s
needs. We also utilize the
FLAVORx
system to help us make good tasting liquid medications
for avian and exotic pets, impossible-to-pill cats and finicky
dogs. It can be made in a myriad of flavors from apple to bacon!
When we need an extra-special prescription we work with a local
pet pharmacist and have the order sent right to your door!
Preventative Care: We strive to allow your pet to live a
long and healthy life with your family. We provide proactive
care by regular exams, appropriate vaccinations for your pets
individual risk, regular screening for intestinal parasites,
nutritional recommendations, dental care when necessary and
routine blood screening for middle-aged and older pets.
Radiology Services: Our on-site, modern equipment
produces high quality images that can help rapidly diagnose many
problems.
Senior Care: Our goal is to keep your older pet healthy
and comfortable. We help slow the progression of arthritis,
maintain clean teeth to keep the body's organs healthy and
monitor the bodies critical organs to diagnose problems while we
can still effectively treat them.
Surgical Services: Dr. Beatty is experienced at many
surgeries beyond neuters and spays such as canine knee repair
after anterior cruciate rupture, intestinal and stomach foreign
body removals, Caesarian section, and bladder stone removal to
name a few.
